A Taste of the Azores
The best Azorean cuisine comes from the sea. Freshly caught and cooked, the traditional cuisine is simple and flavourful. Prawns, limpets, shellfish and fish are some of the highlights, whether they are freshly grilled or mixed in a steaming caldeirada stew. The Azores is also famous for its local beef. Don’t forget to try the wonderful local cheese known as queijo da ilha. Desserts can be as simple as a slice of locally grown pineapple or a selection of traditional cakes and pastries.
